Jim Baross has been a Coalition
member since 1986 and has served as Board Chair, Treasurer, Membership Chair,
and Newsletter Editor for the Coalition. He has been teaching bicycling for the
League of American Bicyclists since 1986. He is a Regional Trainer for League
Cycling Instructors and is a Boy Scouts of America Bicycling Merit Badge
counselor. His bicycling credentials also include being a ride leader for BikeCentennial riding across the US in 1976, bicycle
crossing the USA again in 2007 with his two sons (17 and 20), being a daily
bicycle commuter in San Diego, and he has successfully experienced urban
cycling in many large cities including Los Angeles/Orange County, San
Francisco, Oakland, San Diego, Amsterdam, Austin, and New York City and has
bicycled in most of the states of America including Hawaii.
Jim serves as Chair of the San Diego Regional Association of
Governments Bicycle Pedestrian Working Group, Vice Chair of the Department of
Transportation's California Bicycle Advisory Committee, President of the
California Association of Bicycle Organizations, Board Member for the
California Bicycle Coalition, and Spokesperson for the
San Diego County Bicycle Coalition.
Jim asserts that "Roads are for people, not just for
people in cars."
