SDCBC-Open-Forum Terms of Use (Acceptable Use Policy - AUP)
Although SDCBC sponsors this Forum, the opinions expressed on the SDCBC-Open-Forum Google Group should not be considered as opinions necessarily endorsed by SDCBC or its leadership. The following Rules and Guidelines are necessary in order to preserve the usefulness of the Forum.
Purpose:
Provide for and encourage intelligent and informative discussion of topics of mutual interest related to bicycling in San Diego County.
Rules to be enforced by the group administrator:
- Postings should abide by the Guidelines (see below).
- No Spam (you all know what we mean by SPAM - not the mystery meat product) and nothing "Off Topic" such as political posturing, religious proselytizing, or forwarding of "jokes".
- Posting must be civil in tone and vulgarity or profanity will not be tolerated.
- Nothing unlawful is allowed such as violation of copyright restrictions.
- No anonymous posts. Subscribers are expected to append "In Real Life" names to their email. addresses. Violators of this rule will be "moderated" until they provide identity information. SDCBC has taken the position that it is in our mutual best interest to know who speaks and who is spoken to.
- Non-compliance with the rules may lead to warnings, suspensions (implemented as demotion to "moderated" status) or bans, depending on the nature of the violation. SDCBC reserves the right to unilateral enforcement of these rules. Participation in this forum is entirely voluntary and the privilege of subscribing is at the sole discretion of SDCBC, the sponsor of the group.
Guidelines:
Relevance - posts should be of interest to San Diego County bicycling enthusiasts.
- Be respectful, even when you disagree.
- No personal attacks.
- When disagreeing, address the issues in dispute, not the persons with whom you disagree (when in doubt, don't make your comment personal at all.
- Clarify the accuracy of your understanding of what others are saying before making assumptions about what was meant.
- Don't be condescending. See Talking Down: How Condescension Disrupts Effective Communication
- If you disagree, try to do so politely and pleasantly, and look for common ground.
- Try to avoid logical fallacies like attacking a straw man when making a point.
- Watch the volume!
- Try to not post more than three times per day.
- Avoid repetition and makes sure what you have to say will be considered worthwhile by those to whom it is addressed. Remember, you are talking to almost three hundred people when you post. Review your postings before hitting the send button and make sure you will not regret hitting send in the morning.
